About Us

The Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of Florida ( SPHO FL ) was established in 1997 when a small group of Standardbred enthusiasts realized they were magnificent pleasure horses. However, many equestrians in Florida are unaware of the potential of the Standardbred since they are not readily available. The majority of Standardbreds in this state reside at the harness training centers and are later transported North to race or be auctioned. For that reason, many equestrians remain unfamiliar with the breed.

SPHO FL has an established Ambassador Program for retraining Standardbreds. They are easily transitioned from harness to a pleasure riding horse. Our Ambassador horses receive their foundation training in dressage and trail training. Once they are saddle trained, you can purchase a dual purpose riding and driving horse. See our "Standardbreds for Purchase" page to find your next Standardbred.

Our SPHO FL membership has grown since 1997 and we are dedicated to the Standardbred breed, We continue to educate the public and enhance the knowledge of the community.

Join us in promoting the breed by coming to our monthly Team Ridng practices with your Standardbred in Wildwood, FL.

  • very athletic

  • they trot beautifully

  • many are "gaited"

  • can canter too - yes canter

  • make great family pets

  •

Most "off the track" Standardbreds can be retrained to participate
