Who the heck are we?
"Well, golly, we are people who like and who own horses."
The general public loves horses, horses are in the number two position right
behind dogs in human attachment.
But . . . not everyone owns horses and trail rides.
In the early 1970's the trend toward restrictions on equestrian
use in the public lands was becoming apparent. A few farsighted horsemen in Montana
understood the eventual implications of this trend and decided to form an organization
to represent the interest of saddle and pack stock users. They felt that a credible and
effective the organization must work in cooperation with the public land managers that
make and administer back country policy. They also felt the need to educate the equine
community to become better stewards of the land.
To address this issue we have decided to form a chapter of the
Back Country Horsemen of America.
It is called
Florida Forever Back Country Horsemen, Inc. (FFBCH)
Since then the Back Country Horsemen of America has become a national organization.
To effectively deal with the issues we are now facing and will face in the future
concerning public land use and access the Florida Forever Back Country Horsemen (FFBCH),
a chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of America, is being formed.
The FFBCH is a equine trail advocacy group whose Mission is:
To Perpetuate the common sense use of and enjoyment of our cultural
heritage of horses on public lands,
To Work to insure that public lands remain open to recreational
equestrian activity,
To Assist the various federal, state and private agencies in their
maintenance and management of said resources,
To Educate , encourage and solicit active participation in the use of
the public land resources by equestrian users and the general public commensurate
with our cultural heritage,
