Encouragement

A merry heart does good, like medicine,
But a broken spirit dries the bones

( Proverbs 17 : 22 )

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

( Psalms 34 : 8 )

Jesus is the best prescription ever.
A few weeks ago, I did a research on depression and suicide. A study in California showed Suicide to be the 3rd leading cause of death. The State of Florida was ranked among the top 20 states where this tragic death toll exists.

During the holiday season, when it seems should be the happiest time of year, is not so happy for those who are struggling with depression for whatever cause. God put this message in my heart for those who may be struggling:

Prov:17:22: A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

How is it humanly possible to climb out of the hole of depression and discouragement?

First of all we need a medicine from above. I appreciate doctors and hospitals, but they don’t have all the answers. When we realize we are depressed or discouraged we can begin to look to God’s Holy Bible and find great medicine.

Gal:6:7: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Just stay positive with me on this verse for a moment. If you do the right things, the right things will happen. It is hard to praise the living God when we are struggling, but as we begin to, we begin to feel different. It is hard to help another person when we are hurting, but as we begin to, we too, will feel better. We need to break away from what we feel like doing sometimes and just do good things any way. As we begin to do the right things, we begin to feel that merry heart.

Please remember a crucial thing about depression. Most of the time, it is a selfish act. It may come from being hurt by another or hurt by a situation. It often accompanies sickness and disease. We must be filled with mercy if we are to be filled with God’s encouraging presence.

Mt:6:14: For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

A few years ago a doctor killed my mother by over medicating her. She was 60 years old. I was so angry and hurt. I knew that to truly get thru this hurt, I would have to forgive this man. Ouch! How is that possible. The only way we can forgive others is by the same way we were forgiven. The power of God comes to us thru Jesus Christ by way of the Holy Spirt. I must remember that when I asked Jesus to forgive me of my wrongs; He did. I did not deserve the forgiveness; but I’m happy to receive the grace that comes to us because the Son of God allowed man to put him to death on an old rugged cross years ago. He did not deserve the death but he was willing to die to take our place so that when we need forgiveness we don’t deserve, we can, to this day, still obtain it. Glory!

The lack of mercy for others, will destroy mercy for you. This will cut you off from God and His presence. Once sin exists, it separates you from God. Isa:59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Therefor to have the presence of God the Holy Spirit in you life, you must forgive others. Even to this day I hope that the doctor who killed my mother has since been able to help others. You may say, "it was just a mistake"; but it was my mother.

When we keep the presence of God on us, our heats are made merry. Ps:16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. We are unable to keep good attitudes without God the Holy Spirit in our lives. This relationship made possible thru Jesus Christ; can truly enable us a full, productive, and eternal life.

Pray with me, "Dear Jesus, Please forgive me and help me to forgive others. Strengthen me in every way and help me to live the life of a child of God Almighty. A-men."

God richly bless you and yours during the holiday season,

Terry
