Weeki Wachee Springs might become a state park City seeks nominations for Great Brooksvillian While Founders Week is a celebration of Brooksville’s history, the Great Brooksvillian Award is meant to honor those who have helped make the city a better place to live. The city is now seeking nominations for the annual award that, according to the award description, “recognizes the outstanding men and women who have made significant positive contributions to the history, culture and/or economy of our community.” The city council selects the winner, who is then honored during a ceremony slated for Wednesday, Oct. 17, during Founders Week. Last year’s recipient was former city attorney and state Sen. Joe Johnston. The deadline to submit nominations is 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.
