Due to the severity of her burn and years of her immune
system fighting a loosing battle that lead to several
problems throughout her life, we sadly lost our sweet
Macy due to Chronic Antigenic Stimulation resulting in
Bone Marrow Dysplasia.
Godspeed my sweet Macy....forever you'll be in my heart.......
I'm writing Macy's story to warn others so these kind of
senseless tragedies can be avoided. One of the
unbelievable things is that I personally know of 2 other
people this has happened to. All 3 happened in a vet's
office.
A heating pad was placed on the surgery table during
Macy's c-section as an extra level of comfort for her.
But it was placed on high and forgotten! So it remained
on high all throughout her surgery.
The next day she was very sick and I saw this unusual
square pattern on her back. I still didn't realize what
had happened. I took her back in for a recheck and we
then figured out what was going on. All we could really
do is wait. Macy was very painful and would not eat.
After a few days the skin on her tail began to slough off.
I was horrified at what was happening and not knowing
what was going to happen next.
We ended up having to go to a specialty clinic for care
twice a week for 3 months in order to save Macy and
help her heal. Her care required the debriding of skin as
it died off and she was wrapped from shoulders to tail for
3 months. I had to change these wraps at home every
other day and flush the wounds out with sterile fluid each
time. I then applied a cream that human burn patients
use with sterile gloves. Macy was a trooper and tolerated
it all extremely well.
I'm so proud of her and her accomplishments in the
whelping box. Now she is retired and remains my special
little couch potato!
Please be warned that the following pictures are very
